Danielle V. Shelov, PhD 

Dr. Shelov attended Yeshiva/Ferkauf Graduate school in NYC at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Shelov trained in family medicine at Montefiore Hospital, Neuropsychology at Bellevue Hospital, and in anxiety treatment at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at Columbia Psychiatric Institute (PI). Danielle also worked on the pioneer research study at Einstein that examined the impact of Yoga on women undergoing Breast Cancer treatment. Dr. Shelov completed her formal training at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, which is renowned for its intensive exposure in inpatient psychiatry and on-going Day treatment Psychiatry. Dr. Shelov completed her published doctoral research on the impact of yoga on mindfulness, cardiovascular reactivity, and empathy.

Danielle went on to receive her Post-Doctoral training in Eating Disorders at Columbus Park Collaborative (CPC). Dr. Shelov was also a certified Yoga Teacher (2001) and developed and led the yoga program for patients with eating disorders at CPC.  Dr. Shelov has been working in the field of eating disorders since 2009, and approaches treatment with a team- based philosophy.

Dr. Shelov has lectured on the topic of eating disorders in multiple settings; both for other health professionals and in private schools throughout Manhattan. Dr. Shelov was asked to give grand rounds at Maimonides Hospital in 2019 in Eating Disorders, lectured in the department of Pediatrics at NYU/Winthrop, and was a colloquium speaker at Ferkauf Graduate School.  Dr. Shelov is frequently interviewed in the popular press regarding her opinions on eating issues and young women.

In addition to her work in eating disorders, Dr. Shelov furthered her training in family and couples work, with a clear understanding that Individuals do not emerge in a vacuum and understanding their families, childhood, marriages and systems are vital to psychological treatment. Dr. Shelov has completed training in Systems Centered Therapy (both group and individuals) Emotion Focused Therapy, and studied couples therapy with renowned Hedy Schleiffer PhD.

Dr. Shelov has a practice in NYC and Westchester and integrates her work in the fields of mind-body for a fully integrative approach. As a scientist, clinician and yoga teacher, Dr. Shelov believes in treating all aspects of the human body. The mind and body are intertwined and health can only be achieved when both are recognized and addressed.

Dr. Shelov sees individuals, couples and families, and oversees all Eating Disorder work at the Shelov Psychology Group.
